MOLLIE'S CURVY STYLING TIPS | ISSUE 2: BIG BUMMED BABES

Sunday 11 October 2020

Welcome to issue two of MOLLIE'S CURVY STYLING TIPS! In today's post I'll be talking you through the struggles big bummed babes have, and how I've been overcoming them recently. From sizing up and wearing a belt, tucking tops in, wearing Miss Sexy trousers in high school.. I'll be sharing it ALL. I'll even be letting you in on a few secrets, including how to wear a cropped top confidently (yes, even with your belly button on show).

Trousers are something I never wanted to wear when I was little. I remember being at school and ALWAYS wanting to wear my summer dress – so much so, that my mum actually let me wear my summer dress throughout the winter months (albeit with tights). I was so conscious of my legs, my bum and the fact that I was bigger than the other girls at school.

It wasn't until my second year of high school that I started wearing trousers all the time. And even then, they had to be meticulously picked out and altered by my nan. At first I wore Nike gym trousers (before the days of tight fitting yoga pants I might add), they were loose and swingy and looking back, not at all flattering. I then followed the trends a few months later and opted for 'Miss Sexy' trousers (if you know you know). I remember wearing the size 16 trouser, but telling my friend I was in the size 12. These trousers were tight fitting and looking a WHOLE lot better than the Nike baggy trousers I opted for prior. But they were poor quality and always split on the thighs. Being a bigger girl was tough back then!

Fast forward almost ten years and gone are the days of baggy, loose, tight and split trousers. Gone are the days of pulling my school sweatshirt over my bum in order to hide it. Gone are the days of lying about my size. Gone are the days of being ashamed of my body, wanting to hide my body and wanting to change my body.

Big bummed girls can wear... whatever they want (but here's some pointers)

I'm an advocate for wearing whatever you want, but as a fashion gal – I obviously have some tips, secrets and hacks to make the most of your banging bod!

When you've got a big ole' bum, it's SO difficult to find jeans and trousers that 1) go up past your bum and 2) fit seamlessly on your waist/hips. In fact, I have NEVER found a pair of jeans that fit me seamlessly – I'm still on the look out and fear I will be for the rest of my life. But, I have found that there are a few jeans that fit better... Marks and Spencer jeans being a personal favourite, Simply Be. coming in at a firm second favourite, and River Island Harper Jeans coming third. The size I get depends on the blend of the material, the cut, the style and the sizing guide in which it follows.

Wearing a belt helps A LOT. I recommend wearing a belt with jeans to get rid of the 'gappy bit' at the back (you know, just above the bum and around the waist).

I think buying the correct size is REALLY important. Don't just squeeze into a pair of size 16 jeans because 'that's the size you are' and you 'MUST NOT be an inch bigger than that' – please, please, please buy the size that looks good, fits the best, feels comfortable and makes you feel confident.

When buying trousers, they don't have to be loose and big. I really recommend getting trousers with a bit of give in them, a bit of stretch – trousers that mould to your shape and fit like a glove. I really recommend Marks and Spencer Mia trousers, but again, make sure the blend is correct. I wear these in a size 18, but in the wrong blend I could easily be a 22.

Hi 👋 I'm Mollie and I have a belly. Bellies are normal 🥰 A few years ago I didn't like my squishy belly 😭 But now I love it 🥰🤩♥️ I love how it moulds into different shapes when I sit, stand, bend and move. My rolls are like waves.. waves in the deep blue sea. My rolls are like ripples.. ripples in puddles that you jump in when wearing wellies. My rolls are like silk.. silk that folds elegantly and looks beautiful when it falls ✨ #bellyrollswhocares #bellyrollsforthewin #bellyrollsfordays #curvesarebeautiful #curvygirl #curvystyle #fatpositive #whatfatgirlsactuallywear #curvywomen #fatmodel #fatgirl #fatpositivity #reallifeandstyle #fatfashion #plussizestyle #plussizelife #visiblebellyoutline #bodyposipals #effyourbeautystandards

My bum was always my worst feature when I was younger. I loathed having a big bum because I wasn't like the other girls in my class or like the girls in magazines. But my big bum is now one of my favourite features 🍑 It's part of who I am, it's made me who I am today and it gives me a unique figure which I love ♥️ Yes it has its downfalls.. having to buy a bigger size trouser to get them up over my bum and then the garment being too loose on my small waist. Butt (see what I did there) my bum is part of me.. it was once seen as an imperfection, but I now see it as something that makes me perfect in my own unique way 🍑♥️🥰 #bodyposi #bodypositive #bodypositivity #curvesarebeautiful #peah #peachy #curvefluencer #bigbutt #bigbum #size16style #plussizestyle #midsizestyle #midsizegals #curvesonfleek #silohette #respectmycurves #honormycurves #curvyandproud #effyourbeautystandards #ilovemybody #reallifeandstyle #realbodies #realbody #bodygoals #loveyourself #curvywomen #fatpositive

I find wearing either cropped tops/jumpers or tops tucked in makes the whole outfit look more polished and 'put together' again, as mentioned in my last curvy styling issue, it really defines your figure and accentuates it perfectly (sometimes even mimicking an hourglass shape). I just don't think an oversized t-shirt that hangs on your frame, covers your bum and belly has the same effect as if it was tucked in. Oversized, long, shapeless t-shirts are a big NO NO for big bummed babesbut if you personally love that look, you do you honey!

The hunt for big-bum-friendly jeans still continues.. I have a feeling this quest is never-ending but I shan't lose hope. Any questions or styling tips? Want me to cover a specific topic in my next curvy styling issue? Let me know below...
