I'm a UK size 16 (I've basically shouted this from the rooftops, so I'm sure you're all aware of this fact) and it's no secret that I love wearing bold ensembles. For me, fashion is about expression – growing up, I wasn't popular, and being in a school uniform for most of my teenage life severely stunted my fashion self-discovery. It wasn't until I had two years off of school due to having gallstones, that I actually figured out who I was and what I liked, in terms of fashion.

After getting into fashion more, I began to see a trend – the plus size clothing ranges that were (and still are) sold in high-street stores aren't fashionable, and many plus size/curvy women tend to shy away from colour, pattern and daring styles.

Being a bigger girl who loves fashion is a peculiar situation to be in. I'm expected to be ashamed of my body, which means I'm expected to want to keep it covered with baggy clothes in dark hues – but this is where I rip up the rule book, and that's exactly what I did when I started to get into my own fashion grove.

When I was 17, I started college in a new town and I went as an unapologetic, fashion-loving, sassy-minded version of myself. It worked out pretty well and from then on – I haven't looked back.

I used to conceal my figure in dark garments and baggy t-shirts.. but now I wear bright coloured trousers and fitted tops – broad hips and VBO on display and zero fucks given

I don't listen to the fat fashion stereotypes – I don't wear baggy clothes like I once did as a teen. I don't live in long, baggy knitted dresses in hues of grey; I don't hold a bag in the crook of my arm to hide my belly; I don't wear horrid clothes while nice ones sit in my wardrobe waiting for me to 'get thin'. I'm fashionably liberated and liberated with fashion, and because of this I wear whatever I want – block colours, odd colour combos, patterns, stripes (both horizontally and vertically), and fitted clothes too.

I no longer let my big bum stop me from wearing the clothes I love. When I was younger I was stuck in a cycle of wearing dark clothes to 'shrink' my figure and silhouette, and long tops to cover my bum – but now I wear bright coloured trousers with a fitted top tucked in and I feel FIERCE and FABULOUS and SEXY.

This post was a gentle reminder to wear whatever the hell you want. If it makes you feel good and put together and like you can conquer anything... just go for it. Although scary at first, you'll feel exhilarated and amazing because you took the leap.. (even if it is just to take out the bins)...
