EMBRACING JEANS AND A T-SHIRT

Saturday 23 March 2019

I've never really been a jeans and a t-shirt kind of girl. When I was younger I did sport the classic uniform of jeans and a t-shirt, but as I grew up and found my style – it just wasn't 'me'. But in 2019, I'm going to embrace this comfy and classic outfit... okay, maybe I'll still add a quirky chic twist to it though...

Since finding my style, I don't really ever tend to 'dress down' – even popping down the shops or to the post office, you'll almost always find me looking chic. But this is unrealistic, and it takes A LOT of effort. So this year, I'm challenging myself to wear jeans and a nice t-shirt a little bit more. That doesn't mean I'm going to ditch my chic attire, blow dried hair, painted nails, or sophisticated accessories anytime soon though.

Jeans and a t-shirt doesn't have to be boring.. it doesn't have to be an old discoloured white t-shirt with baggy boyfriend jeans.. it can still be glamorous and chic – and here's how:

When I style up any outfit, I have to put my own spin on each garment. I don't want to look like everybody else, and I don't want anyone else to look like a carbon copy of me – individuality is important to me.

As soon as I saw this t-shirt in the 'new in' section of my local Topshop a few weeks ago, I just couldn't resist. Oversized, long-sleeved, pastel colours, stripes, and gold thread? It was a no brainer, I just had to have it. I'm not really a t-shirt girl. I think I own maybe five (max) in comparison to my 25/30 blouses! But this t-shirt just gave me a chic vibe that instantly enabled me to know I could style this up really well, and in a super chic manner.

It took me two days of me owning this gorgeous tee before I styled it up, wore it out, and took photos of it – I just couldn't resist!

I decided to style up this long sleeved, oversized dream of a tee with some grey skinny jeans, and chunky chelsea boots. I then knew I had to add a few chic twists – a clashing jacket with a gingham print, mustard and tortoiseshell tassel earrings, and my Louis Vuitton Damier Azur. Three clashing prints (stripes, check, dogtooth) that work so well, and add a bold and classy vibe... I was good to go!

I felt so chic in this outfit.. it was comfy, cosy, and I didn't feel scruffy. Usually when I'm not in a skirt, dress, or chic blouse, I instantly feel scruffy – but this outfit was different, as it still had lots of chic elements!

You can make any outfit more 'you' by simply changing it up, breaking the rules, and being bold, brave, and confident. Everyone has their preferences in fashion and style – whether you prefer darker colours, a certain print (leopard, snake, polka dots, breton stripe), or certain styles of garments (midi skirts, palazzo pants, shirt dresses). It's easy to take a 'new in' t-shirt from any high-street store and instantly make it YOURS by adding little touches that relate to only you, and YOUR style! After all, why do we ALL want to look like the shop's mannequin?

The two 'new in' pieces that I'm sporting here are the t-shirt from Topshop (which is my Tee & Cake), and the chunky chelsea boots which are from River Island. The rest of the outfit was old season stock that I've had hanging in my wardrobe for a while!

The gingham print coat was from last year's Topshop sale, the grey jeans were from River Island over two years ago, the earrings were from Accessorize a few months ago, and the Louis Vuitton bag was bought a few years ago (but as it's a classic piece, it's obviously still available).

Because this outfit made me feel confident, comfy, cosy, and chic – I will definitely be embracing the classic 'jeans and a t-shirt' look again (okay, okay, obviously with a few chic twists).

Do you often wear jeans and a t-shirt? Let me know how you change things up a bit, and alter your outfit to suit your personal style a little more!
