COMING OUT OF THE BROOM CLOSET.. BECOMING WICCAN

Sunday 6 January 2019

I'm a practising Wiccan Witch! Yep, you did just read that correctly. I have never really been one for religion, and I never thought I would become spiritual either. But in the past twelve months I delved into spirituality, and have since been looking into Wicca and Paganism...

At first, the word 'witch' may seem scary. Lots of people think that Wicca is demonic/satanic – but this is so far from the truth. Wicca is a religion within Paganism that worships the earth, the universe, and various Gods and Goddesses – it's a religion that promotes peace and focuses on positivity.

You may be thinking, "ahhh, she's a witch, that means she puts curses on people" – nope, you're entirely wrong. Putting curses on people is NOT a thing that Wiccan Witches do (despite the temptation being all too real sometimes), Wiccan Witches believe in the rule of threes – if you harm anybody, that harm will come back to you three times as worse. So no, we do not put curses on anybody. Plus, I personally don't hold hatred for anybody – holding hatred for people isn't good for us, it only harms us. I look at everybody with love and light, because otherwise it harms me, and causes me to become unhappy.

I decided to follow the Wiccan way because so many of the Wicca beliefs are similar to my own. I also believe in following the Lunar cycles, I believe in Wiccan Magick, and I believe in rituals and spells. Crystal healing is another big part of my life too.

Since the beginning of 2018, I started to become more positive. I can categorically say that I am not the same person that I used to be.. how cliche! But it is so true. The end of 2017 was a really shitty time for me, and the beginning of 2018 was just as bad, but I soon came into my own and started to change the way I perceived myself, the world around me, and my mindset. Obviously Wicca and positive thinking hasn't cured my anxiety just yet, but I'm hopeful that it will soon.

So, I started becoming more and more positive in Jan/Feb 2018, then in July the Law Of Attraction made a big impact on me, and then in late September/early October I started following the Wiccan way after a few weeks of looking into it.

You just imagine that anybody who is Wiccan or becomes Wiccan is very alternative and extremely eclectic, but this is not true in the slightest. Although a large proportion of Pagans, Wiccans and other spiritual people do fall under those two styles, not everybody does. I wouldn't say I fall under any category – I'm a merge of all kinds of styles, and I suppose I always have been.

I have always had a keen interest in spirituality, despite being raised in a family that has never been religious. My mum and I have always had a keen interest in candles, insense, horoscopes, and tarot among other things – so I suppose the shift was only natural eventually.

Ever since I started following the Wiccan way, I've been following the Lunar cycles, partaking in burning rituals, using sage to cleanse areas and auras, using colour magick (with candles), using crystal healing, Himalayan salt lamps, essential oils, and the big one... gratitude. I also worship the moon, various goddesses, and I have recently started bonding with and using oracle and tarot cards. Woah.. that sounds like a lot.. but I've not even done as much as I want! There is SO much more, so many different rituals, and so many different layers I am yet to discover. Wicca is a really interesting religion, and I am super happy to be a part of it, even if it has only been for a few months.

I'll be writing LOTS more content revolving around Wicca and The Law Of Attraction. Stay tuned for posts about my favourite Wicca books, my Book Of Shadows, my Altar, my favourite rituals, oracle and tarot deck reviews, and MUCH more!

Wicca has helped me in so many ways, and I am excited to share my journey more with you this year, in 2019!

I am so so excited to get stuck into Wicca more – it's a wonderful faith that I am fully immersed in, and I cannot wait to progress within Wicca, and master my own take on it. Wicca is a peaceful faith. A faith that is more like a way of life rather than a religion. It promotes peace, happiness, positivity, and a love of nature. It's the perfect path for me, and I am so thrilled to be on this journey.

Not only will I be giving you all an insight into my practises, but I will be letting you all know how certain aspects of Wicca have improved my mental health, wellbeing, and life in general.

  2. Honestly, I love that you prefaced by saying that you are a Wiccan Witch - a lot of people new to that path assume that Wiccan and Witch are the same thing, but they're not. You can be a Wiccan and a witch or you can be a witch and follow a completely different path.

That's my case. I'm not Wiccan, but I've been a practicing witch for more than a decade now and I'd like to think I've got myself a nice, personalized little practice going on. :)

Best of luck in your spiritual journey, and my recommendation for connecting with other knowledgeable and insightful Wiccans would be to hang out on tumblr a bit and interact with some of those lovely folks!
