British Vogue appoints Edward Enninful as Editor

Thursday 13 April 2017

At the age of just 16-years-old, a young Edward Enninful was heading to school on the tube, when a man approached him and asked him if he'd ever considered modelling. The man that approached Enninful was one of Britain's leading stylists, Simon Loxton. Little did a young Enninful know, that just 29 years later he'd be appointed the position of the first ever male Editor for British Vogue...

At present, Enninful, 45, is the fashion and style director for W Magazine but shall be departing from this position on August 1, which is also the day he will take up his new position as Editor of British Vogue. Enninful was appointed the position of Editor of British Vogue on April 10. Current Editor, Alexandra Schulman, announced her departure in January of this year and shall be departing this summer, this is when Enninful will become her successor.

Edward Enninful was born in Ghana and moved to the United Kingdom with his family when he was just a small child. At the age of 16, he began his modelling career after being scouted by Simon Loxton while travelling to school. By the time Enninful was just 19 he had secured the position of fashion director for i-D Magazine, he held this position for over 20 years before undertaking various other roles within the fashion industry such as contributing to American Vogue, Vogue Italia and working on Calvin Klein's advertising campaigns. Enninful then moved on to work at the New York based W Magazine (another Condé Nast publication), where he holds his current position as fashion and style director. As a part of the Queen's birthday honours list last summer {2016}, Enninful was appointed the title of OBE for his services to diversity within the fashion industry, which was a well deserved achievement for him and an achievement that he is incredibly proud of.

With a flourishing career spanning across modelling, styling and directing, Enninful is more than qualified to take up the position of Editor-in-Chief for British Vogue, and I for one, cannot wait to see what he does with the 100-year-old magazine.

One day, I can assure you that Edward Enninful will be my boss. I promise you that one day I shall work for British Vogue. Edward, if you're reading this - remember my name, because I shall be in touch in the near or not-so-distant future...

Enninful is going to be an incredible Editor and I am honestly so excited to see what the future holds for both him and British Vogue. Good luck in your new position, Edward - you're going to be an amazing Editor.
